The thin line between genius and insanity

And Janice Dickenson vamps her way along it. Here, on an interview with one of my favourite talk show hosts ever (I with they showed him here) Jonathan Ross, she tells it like it is and I haven't laughed this much during an interview since Parkinson sat down with Dame Edna , Sharon Osbourne and Dame Judi Dench.

PS: Now I know Mick Jagger and Stallone have something *very small* in common. Hee. Part 2 here btw.

Part One

Part Two

In other news, I just heard some firecrackers go off (is it that time of year already?), I'm off to the States and watching MLS soccer is fun.

MUST SEE TV

Everyone MUST go here and watch this clip of a recent interview from The Colbert Report. Needless to say, I think Jane Fonda's been in Lindsay Lohan's stash, and Colbert was about to wet himself - in more ways than one.

Today is...

What is it about a sunny day that just makes you unbelievably, stupidly, deliriously happy? I don't know, but today I woke up in a bit of a funk, but then I followed Terry's advice and went outside for a bit, and now I can't stop bouncing.

Everyone needs to go outside today. And tomorrow. And every day - have yourself a frolic on the grass, turn a cartwheel if you know how (I don't anymore), smile randomly at someone you don't know, sing a song at the top of your lungs, draw a picture, buy yourself a present, eat some cold strawberries outside in the sunshine, play with a puppy, accost someone with a hug, I don't care- just go make yourself happy. Life's too short for the blues.

Of Kings and Rockstars

So there I was, chilling on the couch, watching me some Tyra (don't ask) and dozing off, when Steff calls me and asks whether I wanted to catch The Killers in concert - like in two hours. The words 'Hell yeah' spring to mind. We got down there, and man, those boys put on a good show. I'm not nuts about their new album, but some of the songs on it are wonderful and worthy of much praise. Even from a distance, Brandon Flowers (19th century barman outfit and all) is very pretty.

Speaking of pretty, everyone needs to check out the Showtime drama 'The Tudors' - it doesn't show in Canada, so I have to get it by nefarious means, but whatever. It's well made, addictive and full of good looking people mucking about with one another. Now I know I'm biased toward British period pieces in general, but this one pulls off a modern take on medieval Britain very well. Or maybe it's just the manpretty. Either way, the themes are well represented, the inherent madness of King Henry VIII is brought forth by a very err... robust performance by the lovely Jonathan Rhys Myers and Sam Neill plays a wonderfully ruthless Cardinal Woolsley. And for those who care little about nuanced acting in tights, the men are hot and the women are pretty and flash their boobiez a lot. So there.

If you needed any more convincing, and Natalia can attest to this - it's not often one gets to see a good, old fashioned, bodice-ripping ravishing. Complete with real bodices.

601, she hath ended (almost)

Steff Rota throws one hell of a party. That is all. Also, I finally got to party like a rockstar last night.

Phase 4b is in! Finally.

Boys are not stupid, people are stupid. (and other things)

Turns out that in my own anger, I pulled the same stunt that I was berating others for doing - I made brash generalizations. For all those men that are sensitive and smart and grown up enough to bear my idiocy, I apologize. It's very easy to get caught up in some sort of reverse discrimination in an attempt to gain equality, and that is equally as counter-productive. It's a slippery slope once you try and get on.

Which reminds me of an old Enid Blyton book I used to read as a kid - did anyone else grow up on Enid Blytons like I did? Mallory Towers, The Five Find-Outers, The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Children of Mistletoe Farm, The Enchanted Forest, St. Claire's, Noddy, and so on? I had to learn to read on my own when I was about 4 - mom had my brother and I had to entertain myself. Some of my clearest memories was sitting close to my mother as she did her mom-thing and read, spelling out words to her that were new to me. I read my first ever "Big Kids" novel - the first St. Claire's novel - about twins that go away to boarding school - when I was about four and a half, and was hooked. I was the kid that begged for books as presents - I must have read and re-read every book in my house a million times.

The only TV I'd ever watch (other than the occasional Tom & Jerry cartoon video) until I was about 10 were the ten minutes of commercials that Indian national TV broadcasted at 8 PM every night, after the news. I used to look forward to those advertisements like you wouldn't believe. Apparently I was a marketing geek before I even knew what marketing was.

Anyway, back to Enid Blyton. A 'big kid' friend of mine, who I rarely see now, but will always credit for my love of reading, basically took it upon herself to increase my range. I remember very well the day I went to her to borrow another Noddy book (I was 4) and she said, "Enough baby books." and chucked a novel at me. I'd never been so intimidated in my life, but I took it and read it (very laboriously, but still) and never looked back since.

I know Enid Blytons are banned from North America - or that's what I've heard. She uses terms that are now inappropriate, but I will always look upon the stories she wrote fondly. She instilled not only a love of reading in me, but also fired up my imagination like no TV ever could. To this day, I walk through a wood imagining that pixies and fairies are hiding under the leaves, I look upon very tall trees and wonder which magic land is visiting this week and every rocking chair, in my head, grows wings that I will see when I'm ready.

Thoughts on Teh Sechs

Viz, in his infinite wisdom of all things penis-related, is teaching me the sooper seekrit language of men. Apparently it extends beyond 'beer', 'boob' and 'basketball'.

Women:
'hot' - arm candy, fling material
'beautiful' - what you take home to meet mother
'...' - the 'not hot' girl they're secretly hooking up with but would rather die than admit to

Apparently you can be one of the three, but rarely switch categories - within one man's point of view at least.

It's fascinating really. Think back to high school. The bitchiest of women were the ones you were the most afraid of. Unless you were bitchier than them. But chances are, those were the women you later found out had major self esteem issues - as demonstrated by (probably to this day) rampant bed-hopping.

When you're in college (undergrad), you see a plethora of just-legal kids rutting about like rabbits - just cos they can. Then, it's chalked up to 'freedom' and 'experimentation' and a whole bunch of other excuses for the same lack of self esteem and vaguely dangerous sexual practices.

When you're older - promiscuity is glamourized. Now I love Sex and the City as much as the next person, more even, but seriously - anyone who buys into that has some major issues. Fabulous and independent or not, Samantha has some major issues and you know it.

I could go on, and I will. But later.

Aaaand we're back!

1. Pillowmint is back up and running. Whee!

2. I love Steph. And Steff. For entirely different reasons.

3. I don't know what to wear to the 90's party. I don't even own ripped jeans anymore. Maybe I should channel Courtney Love circa '93 but I don't know where to get lipstick in 'wrung out junkie'. She's apparently dating Bruce Willis now. I know, I know. Too easy.

4. Boys are stupid. Viz, whom I love dearly, is not and amused me greatly today when I tried to vent some of my frustration by yelling about his gender backed off the argument immediately. This, from a man who will leap at the chance to dissect anything from religion to RSS feeds at a moment's notice and equates Javascript is dirty talk actually took a hit on the gender argument. I realise this means little to anyone else but it tickled me no end.

5. Family came, and went. And it was lovely. I think I saw more of Toronto this past week than I had yet. The CN tower even, which was a giant waste of money and time. I do recommend the hot dog guy at the base though, best $2 on junkfood I ever spent.
